Did You Know?
- The Hi-Liners, Inc., is a not-for-profit youth musical theatre program, dedicated to teaching and preserving musical
theatre arts in our community. Our organization’s vision is to be the preeminent theatre-by-youth organization in South King County, delivering
high quality live musical theatre to our audiences.
- DownStage Center productions give our youngest performers opportunities to bring their energy,
passion, and growing talent to the stage!
- DownStage Center is the Hi-Liners' theatre education arm, presenting low-tech, high-quality
performances, as well as workshop series with introductory, intermediate, and advanced-level instruction for students (pre-k through
college).
- DownStage Center produces two productions a year. These shows are performed at various locations
throughout the Burien/Des Moines/Renton community and are perfect for very young audience members (who love to see their peers on stage), as
well as the whole family!
- DownStage Center offers year-round opportunities for kids to "get connected" with the Hi-Liners and
find their inner "actor". With classes during the school year for ages 3 thru adult, and summer camps for ages 7-15, there's something for
everyone!
- The Hi-Liners also has a MainStage Division which produces two productions per year performed by
young people between the ages of 9 to 22 at the Highline Performing Arts Center.
- The Hi-Liner organization is funded from ticket sales, tuitions and donations from a variety of sources, in that
order.
The Hi-Liners is independent and has received no financial or material support from the Highline School District since 1987.
- We strive to offer local young people a highly professional theatrical experience while maintaining one of the lowest
tuitions of any youth theater in the Seattle area.
- No young person is ever turned away over an inability to pay the tuition. The Hi-Liners believe participation is
more important than payment.
- The Hi-Liners is one of the very few theatre groups in the Seattle metropolitan area (and country) that ends up each
fiscal year with a positive cash flow, and, more importantly, zero debt.
- During each major production approximately 100 people volunteer from 2 to 20 hours each, to help build sets, sell
tickets, work the concession stand, style hair, wash costumes, etc. Without our volunteers, there would be no production!
- 2005 marked the first time The Hi-Liners held a formal fundraising event. We thank the Highline Times for hosting the
evening, as well as all the individuals who contributed to our cause, and the PEMCO Foundation for their generous matching gift.
